Site (Scale of The Built Environment)

From the lecture that has be given by Mr 1B, he has introduced about the scale from the point of view :

  • The Eurocentric view :

Eurocentric is defined as implicitly regarding European culture as pre-eminent.

Eurocentrism is the practice of viewing the world from a European perspective, with an implied belief, either consciously or subconsciously, in the preeminence of European culture.

  • the Buckminster Fuller's view

More about Buckminster Fuller's:

His full name Richard Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller (July 12, 1895July 1, 1983)was an American architect, author, designer, futurist, inventor, and visionary

Throughout his life, Fuller was concerned with the question "Does humanity have a chance to survive lastingly and successfully on planet Earth, and if so, how?"Considering himself an average individual without special monetary means or academic degree,he chose to devote his life to this question, trying to identify what he, as an individual, could do to improve humanity's condition, which large organizations, governments, and private enterprises inherently could not do.

The Dying Planet

Why earth is called a dying planet??

It is because too many pollution has happen. Besides that, human has done too many destruction to the earth. The destruction that has be done is like destroy a jungle, tree and the consequences from their action is the effect of the green house. As a result, earth take the effect. As an future consultants, we need to plan the development of the country properly. The destruction of the earth must be avoided.

DOME'S REPORT

INTENTION

From our discussion, our team has select ‘Just Do It’ as our motto for our group. We choose this slogan as our group intention because we believe that we can do anything that we think we want as long it is not illegal. From this domes project, people may think that it is hard to accomplish it, but our group does not care about what other people think and we just do it. From our opinion, we think that we can do anything right if we work together as a team. As a result, now our project is already near completed and our intention that is ‘Just Do It’ is really suitable for our group. And from this dome project, we have learned how to build the dome. Besides that, they are many type of dome that can be build that is 1V, 2V, 3V and many others.

ACTOR

Our group members are from five different major which are architecture, planning, quantity surveying, construction management, and interior design. All of us have played our role in completing the project. The roles are as below : -
1) Architect : designing and furnishing the dome.
2) Planner : plan the strategy on how to build up the dome.
3) Quantity surveyor : calculating all the measurement of the materials in producing the dome.
4) Construction manager : ensure the progressions of the project are in the right path and smooth.
5) Interior designer : co-operate with architect in designing and furnishing the dome.

ACT

First, we were discussing about the dome that we were going to produce and then deciding about the material that will be used. We also were looking for the identity of our team. From the discussion we have concluded that we were going to produce is 1V dome with radius 3 feet or 0.92m and 2.27m height. The material that we used is trouncing pipe
and had been sponsored by one of our group member’s family.

PRODUCT

We were producing 1V geodesic dome which is the simplest dome out of all. Geodesic means a straight line on a plane or an arc of a great circle on a sphere. The measurement of the dome are as listed below : -
Radius : 0.92m
Height : 2.27m
To build the dome we have used different size of trouncing pipes. We have eight pieces pipes length 1.83m each, 4 pieces pipes length 1.63m and some more. We also use some connectors to join the pipes. The shape of our dome is square at the base and pyramid shape at the above. It can accommodate more than five people and it is light so we can carry it.

SITE

The site that has been fixed for us is situated at HBP Minden Valley.
Our lot is lot number 34 which quit far to the HBP studio.

RULES

- Team members at least one from different major.
- Lifespan not more than 12 months
- Link : no need to link with other domes I.e. Independent
- Zero cost
- Packaged
- recyclable
- Prefabricated
- Accommodate 5 person
- Carryable by 3 person
